At Casa Deborah, our mission is deeply inspired by the biblical figure Deborah, a prophetess and leader whose story is a testament to strength, wisdom, and courage. In the Book of Judges, Deborah is described as a woman of great faith and vision, chosen by God to lead the Israelites during a time of turmoil and oppression.
Deborah’s Story
Deborah was a judge and prophetess in ancient Israel, a rare and esteemed position for a woman in her time. She was known for her wisdom and fairness, holding court under a palm tree where people came to seek her judgment. Her leadership was not just in words but in action. When the Israelites were oppressed by the Canaanite king Jabin and his commander Sisera, Deborah did not hesitate to act. She called upon Barak to lead an army against their oppressors, assuring him that God would deliver victory into their hands.
With Deborah’s guidance and God’s support, the Israelites triumphed, and the land had peace for forty years. Deborah’s song of victory, recorded in Judges 5, is one of the oldest passages in the Bible and celebrates the power of faith, leadership, and community.
